Product Overview

Biotin, also known as Vitamin H or Coenzyme R, is a water-soluble vitamin belonging to the B vitamin family, specifically B7. It is essential for synthesizing Vitamin C and is crucial for the normal metabolism of fats and proteins. Biotin is a necessary nutrient for maintaining human growth, development, and overall health. It appears as colorless long needle-like crystals, consisting of a fused ring of urea and thiophene with a valeric acid side chain. It is sparingly soluble in water (22 mg/100 ml at 25°C) and ethanol (80 mg/100 ml at 25°C), more soluble in hot water and dilute alkaline solutions, but insoluble in other common organic solvents. It decomposes in the presence of strong alkalis or oxidizing agents. Biotin functions as a coenzyme for various carboxylases, playing a role as a CO2 carrier in carboxylase reactions.
